It was my great pleasure to confer honorary lifetime CMA membership on Dr. Dagny Elizabeth Dryer at the Medical Society of PEI Annual Meeting. In 1981, Dr. Dryer was appointed as PEI’s first medical oncologist. Under her leadership the multidisciplinary PEI Cancer Treatment Centre was established at Charlottetown’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Today it boasts a medical and support team of more than 75 and delivers patient care in satellite locations. in 2012 she became PEI’s first ever recipient of the national Award for Excellence in Medicine and Health of the Canadian Cancer Society.
